Ending an employment relationship is often as traumatic and unsettling for the employer as it is for the former employee.  Yet, there are situations where it is necessary for a variety of reasons.  When that happens it is vital to ensure the termination is handled in a way that protects your organization.  No one can guarantee a former employee won't file charges with a state or federal agency (EEOC, State Department of Human Rights, Department of Labor, etc.) or contact an attorney.  That makes your actions before, during, and after the termination meeting extremely important.
